This blogspot is concerned with a common interest in travelling, adventure, freedom and lugging around a household all over Europe, like a deranged nomad. Since I have the pleasure of hosting lovely, lovely people with the same interest I will in this blog share my experiences of camper vehicles, their use and where they go and what makes people like me flush with happiness when they talk old camping memories. I will also share the state they are in, how and when they are prepared and for what purpose. I will also post some less photogenic images of me while I am doing what I write about. And more than anything, anything at all, I will be happy to hear about your experiences when RV:ing. The space is open!
The Knaus SportTraveller 510 (click here for registration document)
The Knaus is a compact format conventional RV with a length of 5.40 overall making it a prime suspect for paying the lowest fare tolls and low ferry tickets. In this compact format there is space for: A double alcove bed (1450x2000), an extendable dinette (1350x1950), a 3 herd gas stove, a microwave grill oven (only 220 V), a bathroom with shower, hot water gas boiler and very efficient gas heated duct air. Also 80 liter fresh water tank and 120 ltr grey water tank.
Enter the camper from the right. Alcove is straight ahead. |
This little gem is also equipped with two gas bottles, a blinding curtain behind the driving compartment and silver darkening covers for the three front windows.
What are the upsides of compact campers?
1. More stable when cornering, larger campers have a tendency to roll quite a lot.
2. Lower fares on toll roads and boats.
3. Can be parked in most normal parking spaces.
4. Easy to reverse.
The sweet Hymer Exsis |
Starting with the Hymer Exsis SK:
Being an avid fan of compact and inventive solutions the Hymer lights all my bulbs, or LED:s if you wish. It was made only during six years and started life in a custom, highly secret factory of its own.
The Hymer Exsis SK has its own user club and a massive following. What makes it special is its luxurious base configuration (huge roof window, electrical windows, AC, remote central locks, aerodynamic front) and of course, the fact that it is not a rebuilt van but still no wider than a van.
Feels much like driving a car. No wonder the test results are top notch. Still, price was a bit too high for the average buyer so the Exsis SK was discontinued.
The motorhome has add ons: The flexible 40W solar panels with regulators are mounted. The mini alarm units have arrived as has the oil for the pre-use oil change. The engraving machine is ready and purring, the Hymer will be engraved with the registration number in 30 places, all on metal. The registration number will also be painted on the roof with big black letters, everything to make presumptive thieves lose their interest.
The Pössl DUO for 2 persons
The Pössl Duo is a small footprint van-based motorhome on a Peugeot Boxer chassis. It comes with a turbo charged 109 hp diesel engine and is fully serviced with comprehensive insurance (does not cover driver induced motor damages). It contains a bathroom with Thetford toilet, shower and wash basin with warm water and heating. It has a 2 herd cooking hob, a gas/12 V/220V fridge, a new floor mat, a huge side panoramic sliding door, a double size bed convertible dinette, an 80 litre fresh water tank and many storage spaces. It also has a swivelling passenger seat, double living space batteries, a solar panel on the roof and an extendable awning.
