Coffee break in the Italian alps. First sun of the trip.
Ooohhhh! Back from 14 days with Hymer Exsis, where it really showed flying colors. Downpour in Germany and France, off-road like main roads in Italy and mountains up and down in Greece as well as manoeuvering in tightly packed sreets in Athens. No problem whatsoever, apart from a tyre puncture.
We used the German motorways to coast along at a sweet pace of around 120 km/hour. Easy. Then we enetered north-eastern France and drove along the winding roads of the Alsace Wine Route. Winery after winery and several wine tasting feasts were highlights of our 2 days there.
Parking overnight at the StPeters church (oldest in France) created a wake up shock when the church bells started chiming at 7 am. We did not know that it was bank holiday Monday!

After Alsace and with a considerably heavier Hymer we crossed Switzerland into north eastern Italy. We drove to the Miasto meditation centre outside Sienna, where at least the undersigned meditated and hopefully became a snippet more enlightened. We visited Sienna itself with its magnificent central square, had an absolutely delicious lunch at an unobtrusive trattoria off the square and managed to get lost a few times whern navigating to Firenze to visit famous parks.

This is from the Medici gardens at Firenze
We then steered through Tuscany and its amazingly bumpy main roads and impressive "Castellos" overlooking small villages atop sweet hills, to Ancona where we grabbed the boat to Patras in Greece. An uneventful trip that led us to two days in Aigion, on the Pelopponese between Patras and the Corinth canal. The beauty of the place was, to say the least, astounding.
Aigion is next to the sea but still only 30 minutes to 2000 mtr mountain tops.
We visited the World Heritage Pantokrator monastery with attached duck pond, birds in a cage and a tap in the rock with holy water. We also bought rose petal marmalade and capris leaves in brine.
Of course, we also donned bags of local wine and 10 kilos of home pressed oil at Petros house close to the monastery. To be continued, it is past midnight.

At last a bit calm and relax. All campers have now been readied for the season, upgraded, serviced and pampered and all are out on adventures.

The solar panel control unit

a) The Hymer is currently enjoying clients from Oman. The Hymer has also had a solar panel installed as well as the reversing camera.

b) The Knaus Sporttraveller has had a solar panel installed, an alarm system, remote control locking and the bathroom/shower fully refurbished. The carpet has been washed and motor oil and filter changed. The Knaus is currently serving a six day stint in Sweden with Spanish users, after having catered in Denmark for three Finnish anglers.
I can tell you it is an outright issue to wash these vehicles. Glad there are citrus based products around, they manage to clean all streaks. Actually, it is easy to make a citrus based cleaner yourself, there are loads of recipes on the web, I recommend a mix of lemon peel, white vinegar and cleaners alcohol, let to soak for a day before sifting and using.

40 Watt solar panels have been mounted on the Hymer and Knaus

Ok dear friends and travellers
Time to get the campers up and running, at least that goes for the Hymer. The Knaus is already in Greece and ready to be rented. Just had the GPS tracker mounted and solar panel and regulator.
Weather ought to be fine in summer, especially July is a great month to enjoy in Sweden.
One of my customers plans to ride down to Spain with the camper, that should be sure-fire warm weather!

Wish to test the Hymer during this period? Very welcome to Bromölla, I can pick you up there if you travel by train or drive directly to Biskopsmålavägen in Olofström.

Paradise camping spots in Greece

I lived in Greece for more than 20 years, enough to create a deep bond with all that is Greek: Hospitality, Care, Emotionality, Stillness, Sociability. Of course the connection to Greece is also deeply anchored in the fascinating and ever changing topography of the country, that can be matched by no other country:

  • Vast beaches even inside big cities
  • Islands that win world aknowledgement for their boundless beauty, for example Ikaria
  • Islands that are so barren and stark that hardly a tree grows on them, for example Hydra.
  • Mountains with snowy peaks all year round.
  • Monasteries carved out of cliffs, example Aigion and Mount Athos as well as Agion Oros.
  • Sea routes that are a constant reminder of the ever present Greek mythology.
  • Temples and excavations of mysterious historical secrecy.
  • Islands that seem to have been gifted by the gods, for example Corfu.
  • Spaces and places of meditation and retreat, all over Greece.
The monasteries and converted B&B:s at Aghion Oros, an adventure of exquisite size.

Right, this is from Sölvesborg in Sweden. I returned from Athens a few days ago, 22-25 C, sunny, sitting outside sipping coffee and talking politics, always a loving subject in Greece. And now this! And not only that, my plan for the Knaus is to finish off the mounting of the electrical window winding units and install the central locking system. I had better write this as long as my fingers are still flexible, it is only +1C outside and sleet is pouring down.
The back of the garden at Sölvesborg and it is raining
All this to be able to wind the windows up and down without any almost effort from the driver and passenger!

Unfortunately the latest effort to get the electrical window system to work has not been successful. A new effort will be done around the 7th of April, just before the Knaus goes out again.
The central locking system did not seem to make it since it is the wrong size for the door. Back for exchange!
